I think every designer should learn about branding. It gives meaning to the little things we do. It gives you perspective, context, a bigger picture. And the most important of all it gives you strategy.
With solid branding in place, designing becomes simpler. Vision and mission has been set, everything you do, as long as it falls within those two, it’s in line ya? No more designing based on someone’s taste. Everything’s designed for a reason, to meet some objective. Fonts have already been defined, image styles defined, colors set.
Another benefit when you know in depth about branding, you’ll know the holes in the system when and you join a new company. This puts you in a better position to make decisions and recommendation, not just execute designs and be clueless about the big picture.
