Yes F1 is back. Much hype going on everywhere again. Wasn’t in Singapore for the previous one last year. Heard it was quite an experience.

Anyways I’m getting somewhat annoyed designing in an environment where decisions are made based not on objectives and research, but individual tastes and opinions. Things are based more on ‘feelings’ than the actual results it brings. Whether or not it’s effective is another story, since there’s no real way of measuring results. Or maybe there is, but it’s not implemented.

The thing that annoys the hell out of me most, is the general lack of knowledge in the design and print process. Designers are not involved till last minute. Initial designs are done up even without knowing what it’s for. Creative briefs consist of less than seven words. I hope not all in-house teams work like that. How is it logically correct to have a design come before content? Of course you’ll end up with some sort of rushed design that wasn’t well thought out. I think these are some of the problems many in-house designers face out there, working in non designer companies.

There signs I learnt to look out for the past year that’ll help to avoid potential pitfalls and problems as a project progresses. But now I seem to be dashing blindly into all the holes.
