Yes the American Idol runner up was in town recently. He held a sort of live session for the opening at Universal Studios, Sentosa. We went there expecting a concert, and they even gave out the huge “I love U Adam” hands for us to wave, but it turned out to be not a concert, but a sit down acoustic session.
I mean, despite the incredibly glam setup, stage and all, it was only Adam, his guitarist and drummer for the whole the whole half hour! The other I-don’t-know-how-long, GLENN ONG was on stage yakking away. It felt like, welcome to the “Glenn Ong show, featuring Adam Lambert” Geez.
There was a short quiz session before everything, where they had him figure out Singlish phrases. He looked noticeably bored, but well it’s showbiz. The 2nd part they picked 5 lucky fans to come down and collect prizes from him. The smart ones started hugging him after getting a handshake. After all this talk it was finally time to perform.
Glenn Ong built up so much tension in the theater with the cheering and teasing, but we were (at least I was) greeted with the most anti climax entrance EVER. I mean I was expecting explosions, sparks, a grand entrance. Nope. He just walked out, waved and sat down. That pretty much set the tone for the rest of his acoustic performance.
Awesome vocals and songs, but it was way too short and way too sleepy. His rendition of ‘Mad World’ was about the highest point for me. He didn’t even stand up to walk around on stage. It wasn’t a planned concert experience. It was like, he just came, played a few songs and left. There was an unplanned encore after the main set where he sang ‘Rabbit Hole’.
The most disappointing thing about this “session” was that he, did, not, sing, his most famous For Your Entertainment song. Oh come on! That’s so completely retarded. The only time we heard it was when this dance group was opening for him. He did promise to come back with his full entourage, diamond underwear, feathers and all. Now that would be a real concert. Nonetheless it was still nice to see him live in person.
