Last portrait shoot was over 3 months ago? Yikes. My umbrellas were all still dented and looking terrible. lol.
Never done group shots of this size before. Getting the light right was a bit of a challenge. Especially the rim lights. Wilson wasn’t available, so no one to hold the light up and above. lol. Yes it makes a huge difference how high the lights are. I brought my tallest light stand at 7ft, but still not enough to get the same kind of effect i was looking for.
I wasn’t too happy with the background too. Wanted to get ambient light but the place was way too dark even with all the lights turned on. I had to shoot at 1 second shutter just to get any ambient in. Confirm blur. Ended up with dark backgrounds again for processing later.
Another issue was getting all of them out of shadow range. In groups some heads will be casting shadows on other faces. Stationary light stand was an issue as well. When they moved a lot during the shoot, the light doesn’t follow along. So if they bend over or move too much out of the light range the shot won’t work. Another reason we need human light stands! xD
Over all it went OK, dragged a bit too long, could be better in the pose direction part, but still fun :]
