Monitor Calibrated?

Monitor Calibrated?

I was quite shocked to see the photos I processed in office look so different at home. My 3 year old Dell LCD is exceptionally contrasty, even though it’s set at zero. The contrast in the photos were insanely high, and all the grays were black!

I went through the same frustration a few years back while working on this super old LCD that was wrongly calibrated. Apart from those insanely expensive monitor calibration tools, i wished there was another way to judge whether or not your photos are over or under exposed. I’m using Photoshop levels as a guide, but it seems it’s a bit off too.

I should change my home LCD to an IPS panel for more accurate colors. However apart from the occasional annoyances like now, i can’t justify forking out $700 for a screen i only use at night and not for work :\
