Aim for the stars, hit the moon

Here’s the results after 4 days of stumbling around in After Effects. It’s so amateurish! The motion looks a bit whacky and the timing feels off. But deadlines are deadlines and you just got to roll with what you have.

Someone mentioned I was being too hard on myself, and this was good enough. It just doesn’t sit right with me. “Good enough” isn’t good enough for me. It has to be f***ing awesome! Haven’t you heard the phrase, “Aim for the stars. Even if you miss, you’ll still hit the moon.” And that’s already higher than everyone else that only aimed for the skies.

I’m very particular about where people set the bar for themselves. Like when I come across an awesome piece of work, aiming to do something better will get me at least somewhere close. I also truly believe, the quality of work you output is proportionate to the amount of quality work you take in.

Looking at ugly designs all day won’t get you anywhere. The bar you set for yourself will just be at that level, and you’ll eventually just fall into that category.

It’s the same theory as the “You become the the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with”. So go out and look at what the best are doing halfway around the world. Absorb everything!
