"Handcrafted for the football purist, this adidas boot delivers classic craftsmanship and modern performance"
Yes, I got myself a new year gift! If ever there was one, ok ok, I was just pampering myself... with a second generation AdiPure! Black leather with gold threading hard ground "Zhaming" machine. My first pair was a blue leather one that had metal studs, reasoning is cause its for wet ground, more grip...but I bought it actually more because it just look more fierce and scary to opponents. My old pair's metal studs were wearing off, the full stud wear out till almost 1+mm thick only...as good as no stud, perhaps they are all on opponents shins by now, I wouldn't know. So what happened was my colleague was able to get 40% discount, and seeing that this item was already on discount, he was able to get 58% off the original price. Original price is $215...I got it for $90 only! Top grade boots at $90??? Where to find! So, mai tu liao...BUY!

Punk Hair???
27 December 2009 |
Someone recently commented this, "greg, your hair like that can go work? Your office don't have dress code?" Then I ask,"Like what?" and the reply was,"Like punk hair." Stunning... firstly, let me give you the low down of my hair. On tuesday, I used a shaver, those hairdresser kind, to shave my sides and back number 1, 3mm. I didn't cut the top considering I don't know how to cut and didn't want to make a wrong cut, and have to cut botak. That's called PUNK??? Firstly, even if the office had a dress code, like the name, its dress, not hair code. Secondly, punk hair is a matter of perspective. I would consider punk hair as big spikes, dyed purple or green color. Mohawk style of something, just because its not the normal slope that 'working' class people cut, does that mean it's unacceptable? Its all a matter of perspective really, what someone sees as out of the norm, might actually be pretty norm for someone else. Just like how some things can be nice for some people, and ugly for others. Its all a matter of perspective, and with such example scenario, you can tell whether someone is ok with you being you, or want to enforce their perspectives on you. Are you one of those people who always tell people this is not nice, you shouldn't do that, just because you think its not the norm?

Sherlock Holmes
25 December 2009 |
When you see its directed by Guy Ritchie, main actor Robert Downey Jnr, you just know Sherlock Holmes as we know it will be redefined. The movie was shot with a different tone and pacing compared to normal detective shows, the script was witty and sarcastic, and most of all, who would have thought there will be eye candy in a show like these?
The plot revolves around a guy who deals in the occult, and at the very start, Holmes rushes to arrest him. He gets hangs, and obviously we ain't seeing the last of him. So he rises from the dead, and then the mystery starts. So Sherlock goes on a wild goose chase, trying to pit his brand on logic thinking to solve a case based on mythical happenings. The action scenes are really nicely shot, but what really impresses is the way the quick observations are shown, as Robert Downey Jnr explains his observations in a flash over the smallest of details. I think Robert Downey Jnr has hit a golden streak since his time of rehabilitation, unless you hate sarcasm, I'm quite sure you would love this show.

Another Star Bites the Dust

Brittany Murphy, star of movies such as Clueless, Just Married, Spun and 8 Mile has passed away due to cardiac arrest. We recently see a lot of news of people who are brought home due to heart problem. Its scary as to how sudden it was, just as MJ suddenly left us, I saw the news and thought I read wrongly. How fragile life is, it makes me ponder about how we treat people sometimes. Like how some people ask you out, then you always don't have time for them. What if one day the person just leaves us? Then it will be too late to want to spend time with them already. Lets give that a thought every time we feel like procrastinating over a meet up, cause to meet up really means that you make some time out for that person.

Christmas Gathering

It was a fun time of fellowship with our closest friends. Even though not all of us knew everyone else, we got to know each other better on this day, through pain, dirt, and lots of comical moments. We started off the day with a round of paintball at Red Dynasty, it was pouring, but rain or shine, we all went out like gunners! Nice way to start knowing each other, after which, we headed over to my place to have some wii, bridge and makan. Then we had a game of Cranium, and with 16 people, 4 people in 4 teams, it was great fun. At the end, we exchange presents, and even though the presents had a budget, we all made some thoughtful buys. Glad to see everyone together having some fun, lets do this again! * And thanks to Leafie for the photos!

Exercising in the Dark
23 December 2009 |
I just swam yesterday at my brother's swimming pool at 7+pm. It was an experience, first time swimming alone in the night. Sure, I swam many times at night at public swimming pools, but my bro's swimming pool is pretty much deserted. As I got in to the pool, freezing as it was, the sensation of the darkness in the water, with some parts lighted and some parts dark, sends shivers. A product of watching too many horror shows that involve water. Anyway, there was this eeeeeeeee sound everytime I went into the water, made me nervous as I swam, and I was breathing harder then normal. When it was 20 laps, boy was I glad. Today, I just went running at 11.45pm. Its been a while since my army days that I ran so late, the deserted streets, first time I see how empty my running route is. I must say, its a different experience when you just change the time factor, just like you take the same route to work everyday, but once you change the timing, its a totally different experience. Anyway the reason why I can do all these late things, is cause I'm on a self declared holiday. Taking a break, and just slacking.

Bodyguards and Assassins

Now this is what I call a movie worth waiting for. It may not have the grand fights that the poof of a show had last week, but it has all the points that makes a movie, a great watchable one. The story reminds me a little like a Hong Kong version of Black Hawk Down.
The story revolves around 1905, the time when the revolution is forming, and the pivotal meeting of the main people behind it happens in Hong Kong. The main figure, Mr Sun Yat Sen is coming to Hong Kong, for a secret meeting with all the different state rebellion leaders. The Qing dynasty has gotten wind of the news and sent assassins to kill him. The rebellion faction in Hong Kong, does preparations to protect him and buy him time to meet with the rest. Simple main storyline? Then comes all the sub plots, with the beggar, the police chief, the rickshaw puller, the gambler, the tycoon and the revolutionary. The story builds up with all these sub plots, and peaks at the end with a bang. A strong storyline, great tempo through the show, solid believable fighting, and basically tons of tear jerking moments about people who sacrificed for their conviction of a revolution. A notion encapsulates the show, would you be a doctor or a revolutionary? Both saves lives, but a doctor saves a few lives, perhaps hundreds...but a revolutionary can save millions...

The show revolves around a guy who is the owner of a small factory, producing extracts. His wife stays at home and designs coupons, but of course, a big house nevertheless. It all started with once she got into track pants at 8pm, he won't be getting any. So he goes drinking at his friends bar. The friend, Ben Affleck, is basically the definition of the chinese saying, "zhu pen gou you", pardon the wrong spelling if it is. He basically introduces him to drugs, drinking with horse tranquilizer and etc. Background story is that there is this swindler in the form of sexy Mila Kunis (That 70's show fame), who wants to steal the money of an employee who was involved in a freak accident that had his testicles practically ripped off.
So the main guy finds her sexy, and thinks she is coming onto him...but he is married...and Ben Affleck suggests, "if your wife had an affair, then you wouldn't be guilty now, would you?" and from here, starts to crumbling of his so called boring life. Its watchable, slow-paced, basically a dvd movie, with a few laughs here and there. Not bad, not fantastic either...

Feeling Like Santa
15 December 2009 |
Have you started feeling like Santa? Its the time of bonuses, the time of giving, the time to be jolly, the time to tell the people around you, how much they really mean to you if you haven't done it already. It's Christmas time! And to be frank, it's not Christmas that is the enjoyable day for me, it's the prelude to it. The looking for the gifts, the thought that goes into trying to get a gift that will put that smile or happiness on the receiver's face. So if you haven't started your shopping, do it now! And put some joy into somebody's life! Remember, it's not the amount you spend, but the thought put into a gift that makes it special!

And Im currently feeling under the weather too, nvm, must preserver. To a fitter tomorrow.

Oh my goodness, 2 words for this show...EPIC FAILURE. What was good about the first show, character development of the major characters, good pacing of fighting scenes, right mix of funny moments and serious fight scenes. All of that were missing from this crappy sequel! Even Aaron Kwok couldn't save this show.
The show starts with Godless having captured Cloud and Nameless, supposedly the martial arts legend, no elaboration about how he got that title. If I were new to this show entirely, I wouldn't know who the hell everyone is. And then they got released and straight away fight Godless, only to lose badly. Straight away after that, they run away, and go level up. Do a few moves here and there, and suddenly they become super strong. Then fight Godless again. Shall not be a spoiler and say the rest of the show... just fyi, Nic Tze didn't even really have a fight scene with any of them. Basically it was fight after fight after fight, the cinematography followed 300, some parts were nice, some parts were trying too hard. The ending is a cliff hanger, obviously there will be a part 3. Unless American shows where you know they only leave an opening to a sequel, and not the story must continue with a sequel, this show just seems cut short!
To have waited a decade to watch the sequel, I must say I am gravely disappointed. It is probably the worst Aaron Kwok show I have watched. The Pang brothers simply threw away all that was good, and tried to cram the show with wannabe effects to wow the crowd. They should be ashamed and stoned by Feng Yun supporters.

Shagged!
07 December 2009 |
The start of a new week, shagged out by the weekend... on the subject of feeling old, we had a SF4 session on friday night, slept at about 4am, and pretty much the rest of the weekend felt like a blur. I think I really no stamina to stay up late already now of days. Obviously during the SF4 session, I was the punching bag at SF4, nothing much has changed since SF2 days, but still it was a good session seeing everyone come together and just have fun. The holiday season is coming, lets gear up and party old man style!!

This is the sentence that stuck in my mind when I came out from seeing the specialist today. According to the specialist, its a pretty common thing, its called getting older... diao... the discs at my spine are worn, basically due to wear and tear, so the only solution they have, is basically go swimming 3 times a weak, and also eat glucosamine to strengthen my back muscles to support. The saddest thing, is that due to the wear and tear, I'm actually suffering vertical shortening, in short, I'm getting shorter!!! OH MY GOODNESS!!! IF I AINT SHORT ENOUGH! Even though it might be slightly, but damn sad man. Hai...

My Poor Back
01 December 2009 |
Another reason for worrying about going to extreme measures...I just went for an x-ray, going to see a specialist this thursday. I have been having backaches for a long period already, so I decided to go check on it. My GP asked me to go for a x-ray before seeing a specialist. As it turns out, I have what they call, a compression fracture on the mid back section. See the closeness of the bones at the top of the x-ray? That part. Its worrying, wonder what the specialist will diagnose...
It is said to happen due to a big impact, asked me if I got fall from height, but I don't recall...unless its from soccer. Hai, I guess its all part and parcel of getting older. Lao liao...

Have you ever looked yourself in the mirror, and feel disgusted? Recently I have been feeling lots of that. Looking slumped, bulging "all in one" stomache, self confidence is at an all time low. Its not that I haven't been cutting down on intake or not exercising too. That's the worse part, I don't know how to stop this degradation without taking massive drastic measures, which could have a big effect, but might be temporary? Just like the army, you go in and get fit, and when come out, don't have the time to maintain. Just took my first step today to start running in the morning 3km...but to wake up at 5.50pm everyday, I wonder how long I can maintain...zzz
